dwayne chambers
most of the atheletes that participated in the ... believe that dwayne shouldnt compete in the olympics, despite the fact that he has completed his ban from the sport.
below is a article from a news website(http://news.softpedia.com/news/Dwayne-Chambers-Might-Compete-in-Gateshead-25994.shtml)
Dwayne Chambers Might Compete in Gateshead
- After a 2-year ban from the IAAF, the British athlete is ready for the comebackBy: Ovidiu Panzariu, Sports Editor
Maybe you’re wondering what happened with Dwayne Chambers lately. Although he is still training, he hasn’t been in a race for almost two years now. And that happened since the International Athletics Associations Federation (IAAF) decided to give him a two-year ban for using steroids. Unlike other athletes, the British 100m-track runner admitted his mistake and settled with a long period of time outside the sport.
Well, now all of that is about to change. At least that’s his intention, since competing in the next Gateshead meeting seems to be the number one priority for him and his trainers. Although his time of ban did not yet expire, a spokesman of the UK Athletics stated that the IAAF might give him the go-ahead the very next week. One of the encouraging signs of that happening is that the international body already eased up on Chambers, asking only 140.000 Euros from the 2003 earnings, instead of 190.000 – the sum that the Brit won during the time he was using banned substances."We are close to an agreement with some minor outstanding issues pending but I am very optimistic that he will run this weekend. We are working around the clock towards that. We're still waiting for confirmation of an agreement between Chambers and the IAAF", said a spokesman for the British athlete. He has been training intensively in the last year, with the help of current record holder Asafa Powell and former 2003 World Champ Kim Collins. Coach Glem Mills has stated that his pupil is doing very well and that he is fit for a new competition, after almost 2 years of inactivity. Still, Cubie Seegobin – the athlete’s agent - said that people should not expect Chambers to make a very convincing comeback, since, he hasn’t run in a competitive race for a long time: "He has trained hard, but people should not expect the Dwain Chambers of the past, at least not for the moment, and give him time to shake off the rust".
personally i believe that he shouldnt compete in the sport as he is setting a bad example to the young sports- (the media believe that message he has giving of is is that the people cannot win the olympics without drugs-he said that-this motivates the young to use drugs).
Drafts
what sizes i am planning on using
(do i use a area of 240"- 120" or 320"-120" or 480"-120") i am stuck on which on to use as i believe that the bigger the billboard the more people it will attract- but the less easy it will be to look at and understand.
i have a fixed size on my bus shelter poster as i will have it at size a3-
and the flyer will be about the size of an an a5 sized sheet

Research
i done alot of research -two broadsheet newspapers (no tabloid as they are don't give information on drugs-mainly on sports, celebrities and sexually orientated-nothing on drugs) i used the Guardian and the Times as (got it off my dad reads them) as it gives alot more specific information on not really read about aspects (drug abuses, crime ect). today it didn't have much apart from a little article on drugs but its not on a direct approach on what i wanted it was on about drugs and sport (Drugs cheat wants to run in Beijing) and the nhs drugs (not exactly what I was looking for).
perhaps tommorows newspapers..........................

Men are more likely to take illegal drugs than women, last year on account of the people caught in action-an average was made from the national health service that (men= 13.7%, women =7.4%.)- the ratio here is just under 2:1(not as frequent for the females compared to the female teenagers). The main statistic I found is that 25.2% of
billboard
I have a sort of template= background of my billboard
like i said on the previous blog i am going for the more suitable approach-cops
(i will be able to use an image similar to this one as adults and children will both be able to view this).
I cannot use images of dead people/gravestones with info of drugs on it as a billboard as it not suitable for the younger viewers.
so instead of using a more exaggerated approach in the billboard i will instead use the more exaggerated approach in the panflets-specified age viewers (15+)

wicked
i have thought of an idea of what i am going to im going to my campaign on drugs and their effects but also i will adding moral ethics of a police man. as working with the police force will make me more successful in my campaign as the police=safety of the citizens.
shocking
i seriously can not believe it THERE ARE ACTUAL WEBSITES THAT CREATE HUMOR FOR DRUGS- in my opinion this is horrific as this would only drive teenagers to see and explore the effects of drugs
In the one im about to show you it give the users ideas and ways into using it
as you can see the image is not availble unless you purchase it so i will leave the website details below so you can check it for yourself sam

anti drugs
I have just recieved some good ideas ideas in where to put my poster-in manchester they laminate their posters and put the posters in containers-similar to the bus time tables they put up. this is brilliant as i have been told by my cousin that they put it in the most frequently used bus shelters for school and college students.
here is an example of a couple of them i saw
anti drugs
It took me about three hours to find a picture with a teenager prefably a woman (in my brief i said i was aiming my drugs campaign on young adults. This is a effective poster to me as it has alot of colour and simply and as i wanted to do in my poster go along using the approach of exaggeration and sympathy vote.
Perfect...................

Do you like open holes in your throat-if not dont smoke
this is a foreign picure that is very powerful in coveying the user to stop smoking. it uses powerful imagery -physical, in which put the observer in a tight situation and gives a definate meanung-that smoking is addictive even if it means your health deteriorating once you start it is hard to stop.
in this picture i can see that the light focuses on hole in the mans throat
in the picture you see a prop-ciggarette-this gives the picture meaning and effect.
the shot is a midshot - this shot is very important as it only puts in the specific bits
man is old so it is more effective
what we learnt today
New Terminology
anti smoking advert
This is very effective to me as it shows a weak and vulnerable old man who wishes he could go back and change his decision to smoke (what you do wrong in the past will always catch up to you in the future). Looking at the old man makes people understand how lucky they are to have fully functioning body parts and still have time to change before it escapes you.
THINK FAST, ABOUT YOUR PAST, IN ORDER TO LAST
anti drugs advert
This looks very eye catching as it is aimed at teenagers and this advert consists of a teenager. This advertisement was made for drug awareness and the fact that you have the choice on what you want to do.

Starting The Brief- anti smoking
This is a picture that gives a definite meaning expressing
The text in the picture says “perfume won’t hide it” at first glance I didn’t understand what was meant then I saw the used cigarettes in the ladies hair-automatically this message became clear. This was also cleverly made The writing is at the bottom of the page (last thing the viewer sees therefore remains in his head-whole purpose of the poster). The lighting in the background is a low key lighting this is made effective because we all know that the fumes from cigarettes are grey and therefore this links into the lighting, the lady in the background looks lonely-eyes big and bold with a pale face-gives a impression that she is very lonely and despite the fact that she is trying to attract attention (looks like she is only wearing a vest- low/corner of shoulder).
Starting The Brief- anti drugs
This picture is an anti drugs poster (campaign) that is very appealing due to the technical skills (Mise en scene-lighting, setting......). It conveys a dull and lonely genre which indefinitely catches your attention and makes you want to read in to the message portrayed behind the poster. At first glance it seems to me that it is aimed at adults but gradually on in I realised it is actually aimed at teenagers/adolescent. The poster contains writing (looks very old yet attractive to the eye), the message behind this means despite the fact that they are your mates doing drugs/drinking, don’t take them back to your households because it could lead to you not having a house at the end of the day- drunk/doped=liable + disaster. The message shown in the box at the top says “FRIENDS AREN’T DISPOSABLE, if your friend is doing drugs or drinking, bring them back”. This message is key to teenagers as they spend most of there time with friends and friends fill in a big part of their lives (this advertisement was cleverly made as the producers took this well known fact and used it against the drug users/potential drug and drinkers-your safety is what counts the most to you / help your friends come back on to the good side-better health (no drugs). “FRIENDS AREN’T DISPOSABLE” was in capitals-the use of this is to catch the reader attention. The actual notice on the poster is located in the top left corner as this is normally the second place you look after you notice what is happening in the picture-this is to give the viewer something to think about before continuing with what he/she is doing-keeps in the viewers head. In the background of the picture I can see a lot of rubble and dangerous aspects around him-this makes us feel emotional and pityful towards the teenager sitting alone.
I actually believe this poster is not really effective as it took me time to understand what was meant in this poster- the text used was complex as it has double meanings and could easily set somebody off onto the wrong track if not correctly understood therefore to me it is not a good poster.

Anti Smoking Research
Anti Smoking Research
Have you noticed that Marlboro (huge American based tobacco company-New York) actually shows awareness of the harm caused when inhaled. They have to do this because it is government legislation. (What the company has done is played on the awareness in order to make it even more obvious).
To me the advert is quite shocking because it looks like an advertisement in order to sell more (at first sight), but when you read the text you realise it is infact the opposite.
Anti Smoking Research
Here is another advertisement influencing everyone not to smoke or to stop smoking, they are doing this by raising awareness of facts which the public don’t really consider. It shows physical damage as many people react more to what they see and respond more reassuringly. It is a simple advert consisting of two lines of information that creates a meaning easily- straight forward), It has a metaphor in the actual information given to you ("get unhooked"- meaning get advise on how to stop smoking). It also gives a helpline (0800-free number) where people could get help by specialists.
Anti Smoking Research
Here is my first bit of research on smoking (NHS-website adverts) there is a picture above that really influences me to do smoking as many of my friends smoke. After surfing the web I found that:
People in England considerably overestimate the prevalence of smoking in the UK. One quarter of adults smoke but 72% of adults think that the figure is higher than this. The misperception is greater among the young and the old: 83% of those aged between 16 and 24 years overestimated smoking prevalence; 60% percent of them thought it was at least 50% and 37% thought that it was two thirds or more. It all starts now
Today i began my media production blog, i have been given a task to either produce an awareness magazine, a games package or teenager magazine.
I already know which one I am going to chose…………………..an awareness magazine ofcourse.
But will it be an anti smoking campaign or anti drugs campaign. (I think I should do background research on both and then chose which one later once I have knowledge which one would be more appealing).
